Update current situation

Dear Friends,

Well, As you may have noticed, I was not actively writing my blog the last couple of weeks. My apologies for this. I am sure you are all very curious to know how I am doing and what happened with my Internship. Well, first of all, I am perfectly fine after a couple of tough weeks. Due to the current COVID outbreak, I had to leave Kuala Lumpur. I decided to continue my work from home, which is very challenging.

I was planning to start writing again last week in my blog, but I got sick, unfortunately. And no, I do not think I was ‘infected’. From now on, you can expect a daily update from me, I promise :). So what am I going to write about daily? First of all, About my tasks for my Internship. Furthermore, I was planning to write about several challenges I am experiencing by working from a distance and how I am going to adjust my PLP to the new situation amid the pandemic.

So how is my Internship going? Well, to be honest, I still have to get used to my new situation. I chose this Internship in the first place to work on Athlete Management and to be present at live events. Considering the 7 hours time difference, my tasks changed, and I am getting more tasks where I do not need to work together with colleagues. As you can understand this is (very) boring, no contact with clients and almost no contact with colleagues. This week and next week I will have to see in what way I can change my PLP to still successfully complete all PLOs. So please, my dear peers, if you have any suggestions let me know.

I hope I informed you well enough for now, and I see you, of course, tomorrow with a brand new blog about me and my complicated Internship situation. But hey, challenges are here to overcome so I am more than happy to have enough challenges to overcome :). Have a beautiful day and see you tomorrow!

First day at the office

Today is kick off day, a day I was looking forward to for already a couple of months now. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect. Would I be getting assignments from the beginning or would it just be an introduction? The day began stressful as I did not expect the traffic to be so extremely chaotic in Kuala Lumpur. Of course, I knew it would be chaotic but this was so much worse than expected. It took me 45 minutes for normally a 10-15 minutes ride, I hope it will not be like this everyday.. When I arrived at the building the second challenge began, finding the right office. When I found the office I was immediately welcomed in the company, that gave me a good feeling. After 20 minutes of adapting to my new situation the first meeting began. It was an internal meeting which gave me some great insights in the ongoing projects. Afterwards, we went on to have a meeting and a work lunch with Zurich Insurance. The first big cultural difference I noticed was the amount of lunch time you can take here. You don’t have a specific time here for your lunch as in Holland, but you can take as much time as needed. It is very normal in Malaysia to take more than an hour for your lunch, quite interesting! The second half of the day was filled with some courses about the company and their projects and I started a couple of (boring but needed) assignments. When I took the grab (local taxi) back to the apartment I was quite happy, but tired, with my first day. But a lot to learn!
